Shiver Me Timbers! NetGalley Rejections! Part Fourteen

Ahoy there me mateys!  With more NetGalley rejections piling up, I had a hankering to do another one of these posts.  For those scalawags new to the crew, me blog started in January 2016.  It originally took several months for me to learn about NetGalley and then attempt to use it.  In fact, my first review was submitted to NetGalley on April 3, 2016.  Weirdly, I didn’t post a review of that book on me blog at the time.  Now, of course, I am a NetGalley junkie and am continuously perusing the loot and raising a celebratory glass whenever I get approved.  It hasn’t gotten old.  But even this pirate Captain has been declined at times.  While trying to plan me eArc readin’, I was curious about how often I had been rejected so of course a tally was needed.  When I originally tallied that number was 44 but has since increased to 112.  Well me scalawags, here be Part Fourteen of explorin’ the rejections and seeing what me thoughts be all these days later.  This post be surveying rejections 66 through 70.  Hope ye like it.  If not sod off cause I be enjoying meself . . .

66.  crown of feathers (Nicki Pau Preto)– This has a gorgeous cover and awesome premise with phoenix riders.  Oh and a girl who has to disguise herself as a boy to get a chance.  So why has me wish to read this book disintegrated?  I don’t know.  It has good reviews from the crew and I still like the idea of it on the whole.  However re-reading the synopsis of this one and then the one for book two makes me okay with letting this series go.

67.  gates of stone (Agnus Macallan) – Another cover whim because who doesn’t love the fantasy looking rider inside the body of a giant white tiger?  This deals with islands and pirate-invested waters.  And a sixteen year old girl who murders her betrothed and runs to said mysterious islands.  The reviews say the world building is lovely (being based on Indonesian culture) but the characters and plot not so much.  This is the first book in a series that is not finished.  I will take it off the list for now.  The rest of the series would have to a) be finished; and b) have awesome reviews from crew members I trust before I would take a second look at this.

68. the lightest object in the universe (Kimi Eisele) – Aye, a pandemic related novel about the grid going down and two people in love across the country trying to get back to each other.  I can see why this appealed to me.  However, reading the “in the middle reviews” has made me realize that I am not interested in this version of our future.  Plus I am getting tired of the cult leader subplots in most of the dystopians that I read.  Station eleven being the exception.

69. finder (Suzanne Palmer) – Aye, I got rejected for this one but eventually tracked down a copy.  And I LOVED this.  Like seriously it makes me smile whenever I think about it.  I also happen to have book two sitting in me bunk waiting for the perfect time and mood to read it.  I smile every single time I see it sitting there.  A link to me review of this fabulous book be here.

 

70.  the municipalists (Seth Fried) – This debut was super cute and the highlight was the relationship between stick-in-the-mud Henry the human and OWEN the AI.  Serious it be worth reading for that alone.  The plot has problems and the world building too but I have no regrets because of the interactions of Henry and Owen were awesome.  Me review be here.  Oh and Matey Tammy really enjoyed this one as well.  Check out her review here.

So out of the five rejections in this set we have:

2 ports visited and loved
3 ports quarantined forever

This is the second time I have nothing left to read on the list.  Hooray!
