On the Horizon – unicorn (and horse) (David W. Miles & Hollie Mengert)

Ahoy there me mateys!  I received this children’s fantasy eARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.  So here be me honest musings . . .

Title: unicorn (and horse)
Author: David W. Miles
Illustrator: Hollie Mengert
Publisher: Familius
Publication Date: Available Now!! (hardcover / e-book)
ISBN: 978-1945547768
Source: NetGalley

This is a very sweet board book where two complete opposites become friends.  Unicorn is chipper and likes to eat pink cupcakes.  Horse is kinda grumpy and likes to eat hay.  Horse is envious of Unicorn but uses his skills to help Unicorn when trouble arises.  The blurb says that their differences make them even better friends.  I didn’t find this to be the case.  I do think that it shows that people (or equines) of different backgrounds and personalities can be friends.  I may not have completely loved the plot of this but the illustrations are gorgeous and funny!  I recommend this one to the young’uns.

Side Note: Thanks to Matey Cathy for letting me know about this one.  Arrrr!

Goodreads has this to say about the book:

Unicorn and Horse are very different. Unicorn likes to eat pink cupcakes; Horse likes to eat hay. Unicorn likes to play ring toss; Horse likes to run races. But despite their differences, Unicorn and Horse are the best of friends. In fact, their differences make their friendship even better! Featuring the characters from the beloved picture book Unicorn (and Horse), this colorful board book teaches the youngest readers how to celebrate differences and build diverse friendships.
