Shiver Me Timbers! NetGalley Rejections! Part Twelve

Ahoy there me mateys!  With more NetGalley rejections piling up, I had a hankering to do another one of these posts.  For those scalawags new to the crew, me blog started in January 2016.  It originally took several months for me to learn about NetGalley and then attempt to use it.  In fact, my first review was submitted to NetGalley on April 3, 2016.  Weirdly, I didn’t post a review of that book on me blog at the time.  Now, of course, I am a NetGalley junkie and am continuously perusing the loot and raising a celebratory glass whenever I get approved.  It hasn’t gotten old.  But even this pirate Captain has been declined at times.  While trying to plan me eArc readin’, I was curious about how often I had been rejected so of course a tally was needed.  When I originally tallied that number was 44 but has since increased to 101.  Well me scalawags, here be Part Twelve of explorin’ the rejections and seeing what me thoughts be all these days later.  This post be surveying rejections 56 through 60.  Hope ye like it.  If not sod off cause I be enjoying meself . . .

Side note: all book titles link to Goodreads and the cover photos are from there too.

Worlds Seen in Passing: Ten Years of Tor.com Short Fiction56.  worlds seen in passing: ten years of tor.com short fiction (Irene Gallo et al.) – I still be irked that I did not get this one.  Basically I want to own everything that tor.com has ever published because I always find their work interesting even if I don’t love all of it.  I still want to read this at some point.  Arrrr!

The Queen of Crows (The Sacred Throne, #2)57.  the queen of crows (Myke Cole) – I started this series because of the beautiful covers.  I liked but didn’t love the first book of the trilogy.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to read book two or not.  So I am not surprised that I wasn’t approved for this one.  I can say that I have since finished the trilogy and am glad that I read it.  And this book was me favorite of the bunch and the middle book to boot!  Check out me review here.

Strange Grace58. strange grace (Tessa Gratton) – I forgot all about this book and don’t know what I was thinking when I requested it.  Mehaps the pretty cover lured me in.  I do like deals with the devil so mehaps that lead to the request.  All I know is that this doesn’t appeal to me now and it has mixed reviews from the crew.  In reading some quotes from the book, I don’t believe I would like the writing style.  So off the list it goes!

Give the Dark My Love (Give the Dark My Love, #1)59. give the dark my love (Beth Revis) – The cover and title intrigued me.  It deals with a magic academy, a plague, and necromancy.  I see why I thought I would like this.  I did not know at the time that this was the first book in a duology and have to admit that I had forgotten all about this book.  So I think I will let this one drift away with the tide and never be seen again.

The Subjugate (Salvi Brentt, #1)60.  the subjugate (Amanda Bridgeman) – This is one about weird future prison reform.  I usually like stuff like that.  The reviews say that this is more who-dunnit and less sci-fi.  I am not so thrilled with that.  Much like the last book, I also didn’t know this was part of a series.  Goodbye to this one too.  Arrrrr!

So out of the five rejections in this set we have:

1 port still to be visited
1 port visited and loved
3 ports quarantined forever

Keep a weathered-eye out for more rejections and always remember:

If this Captain ever hears ye usin’ this pick-up line, I’ll run ye through!

Do you mind if I drop anchor in your lagoon?

ARRRRRRR!

x The Captain

      1. It’s one I loved but I can also see how others might not like it, it’s not a perfect book by any means, it just appealed to me for a couple of reasons (some stylistic and some to do with the characters). Don’t feel too bad about taking it off your list! 🙂

  1. I cannot believe that we’re already up to Rejection 60! You’re doing a remarkable job keeping track of this. How do you recall which rejections you’ve discussed already?

The only book which is a bit familiar to me is Give the Dark My Love, as it’s by Beth Revis. But I wasn’t all that into Across the Universe due to writing style, so I might pass on that one even.

  2. Hi Captain! I’ve been meaning to drop by for awhile so I apologize I’m late. I hope your weathering the Covid storm wherever you are.

I’m surprised you got rejected for the 10 years of Tor fiction. I would think anthologies aren’t as popular requests and I really can’t recall any reviews out there for this. I guess Tor is big enough they don’t care about publicity?
